Israeli Aggression on Jenin and Its Camp Claims 13 Lives, Leaving 17 in Critical Condition

  • July 08, 2023

The Israeli occupation forces have announced the arrest of 120 citizens from the Jenin camp, marking the second day of relentless aggression on the city and its surrounding areas. Air raids persist, accompanied by the forced displacement of numerous families from their homes.

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health, the Israeli aggression on Jenin has resulted in the tragic loss of 13 lives and left nearly 100 individuals wounded, including 20 in critical condition. Additionally, a martyr tragically lost his life in Al-Bireh city during clashes in solidarity with Jenin and in condemnation of the Israeli aggression.

Yesterday, the Red Crescent reported the retrieval of a martyr from the Harsh al-Saada area in Jenin, who was discovered this morning. Another martyr, injured during the bombing of Jenin camp the previous afternoon, was also received by medical teams after hours of delay.

Israeli warplanes persist in their bombardment of civilian homes in the camp, while additional military reinforcements and small bulldozers are deployed at the camp entrances, further exacerbating the destruction and chaos within its narrow alleys and streets.

Unlawful Targeting of Civilians and Infrastructure

The Israeli occupation forces have brazenly invaded citizens' homes, streets, and vehicles, leaving a trail of extensive destruction. Reliable local sources said that the occupation forces deliberately bulldozed and demolished asphalt layers on the streets of Jenin camp, causing irreparable damage to the general infrastructure, electricity, and water networks.

While the occupation claims to be targeting resistance sites, their actual targets have been the streets and infrastructure that military bulldozers have destroyed. This includes the crushing of parked cars without any justification other than seeking revenge and inflicting harm on innocent citizens as part of a policy of collective punishment.

According to these sources, the occupation's aerial bombardment has deliberately targeted numerous homes, resulting in fires and injuries among the civilian population.

Targeting of Health Institutions

Health institutions have not been spared from the Israeli targeting, bombing, and bulldozing. Medical sources report that on Tuesday morning, dozens of civilians suffered from suffocation when the Israeli occupation army targeted the Khalil Suleiman Governmental Hospital in the city. Tear gas canisters were intentionally fired at families seeking refuge in the hospital yard after being forcibly displaced from their homes.

Yesterday, the occupation forces demolished a wall at Jenin Governmental Hospital and opened fire towards Al-Amal Hospital, causing significant damage.

Power outages and water supply disruptions have further compounded the hardships faced by the camp's inhabitants, estimated to be at least 16,000 individuals according to UNRWA.

Mass Arrest Campaign and Observations

In addition to the aggression, the Israeli occupation has launched a mass arrest campaign, apprehending approximately 120 citizens. The majority of those arrested were taken from their homes without valid reasons.
