  • July 11, 2023

In a distressing turn of events, the health condition of prisoner Raed Badwan, 59, has significantly worsened, leading to a state of tension within the Negev prison. The Asra Media Office has confirmed that Badwan's serious health deterioration is a direct result of deliberate medical negligence by the Israeli authorities.

The situation has escalated as Israeli prison authorities refused to transfer Badwan to a hospital for immediate medical attention. Badwan, who is currently serving an 18-year prison sentence, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in 2015, with six bullets remaining lodged in his body, causing him excruciating pain.

The alarming case of Raed Badwan sheds light on the broader issue of Palestinian prisoners' healthcare within Israeli prisons. Currently, there are approximately 4,900 Palestinian prisoners detained, including 31 women, 160 children, and 700 individuals with serious medical conditions.
