About 70 Irish parliamentarians, from various Irish parties, sent a letter to European foreign ministers, calling on them to take immediate and serious steps to prevent the displacement and forced deportation of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
The 70 Irish parliamentarians, out of 166, called on the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, to raise the level of European efforts in this regard, in addition to the importance of distinguishing between Israel and the illegal Israeli settlements in all related dealings.
In their letter, the parliamentarians referred to the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza, and the devastating humanitarian consequences on the population. They called on Israel and the Palestinians to protect all civilians and keep them out of danger, as well as provide unimpeded humanitarian access as stipulated in international humanitarian law.
The letter referred to the Human Rights Watch report on Israeli apartheid, and that Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territories comply with the legal definition of the crime of apartheid, according to the Rome Statute.
This letter coincides with the attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to force them to leave their houses, but the neighborhood's residents refuse, and the confrontations against the Israeli occupation army continue in the neighborhood.
370 European parliamentarians sent a letter to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Affairs, Josep Borrell, urging him to work to end the apartheid practiced by the Israeli occupation on the Palestinians.
The parliamentarians also expressed their deep concern about the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories under the policies of the Israeli occupation.
